Prices of all types of meat have increased in the market ahead of Shab-e-Barat. Besides, the prices of daily commodities are also high.
The price of beef has increased by at least Tk30-50 in the market - being sold at Tk780 per kg in the capital's kitchen markets on Friday (23 February).
Mutton is being sold at Tk1150, broiler chicken at Tk200, chicken at Tk300 per kg and loval chicken at Tk500 per kg.
"Price of beef is high due toShab-e-Barat, as there is less supply in the market. Besides, many have reduced the supply of cows in the market due to Eid-ul-Adha. Therefore, the supply is much less than the demand, so the price is higher," said Manu Mia, a meat trader in Mirpur.
Ismatara Begum, who came to shop for groceries at a kitchen market in Pallabi, said that the price of everything is high.
"I don't understand what to buy. I wanted to buy some meat forShab-e-Barat, but if I buy meat, I can't buy other things now," she said.
Government to take tougher measures to curb the rise in prices of daily necessities, she added.
Meanwhile, potatoes were being sold at Tk26-30 per kg, onions at Tk110-120 per kg, local garlic at Tk200 per kg, and garlic imported from India at Tk180 per kg, ginger at Tk190-200 per kg.
However, the price of fish has increased as well.
Due to low supply of winter vegetables, the prices of these have also increased.
