Bangladesh has earned $4.97 billion from apparel exports in the month of January, marking the highest figure in the country’s history.
This figure represents a notable 12.45% year-on-year growth, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Following a sluggish performance in the preceding October-December quarter of 2023, the trajectory of export growth has taken a notable upturn.
During the month of January, knitwear exports exhibited a robust 17.32 percent year-on-year growth, while woven garments rebounded with a commendable 7.16 percent growth rate.
"This is a huge milestone and the reflection of our continued expansion, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said in a statement.
"This is also a reflection of how we are diversifying our product and market base, and moving up in the ladder of value addition," he added.
"We have seen retail sales growth in our major markets where the figures of the USA and the UK markets hit records during holiday seasons last year," the BGMEA chief also said.
BGMEA hopes that the year 2024 will be a year of comeback in terms of trade and growth.
