SM Mannan Kochi is set to be elected as the next president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) following his panel's decisive victory in the trade association's biennial election.

Kochi's Sammilito panel won all the director positions in the election. Of the 35 director posts, 26 are in Dhaka and the rest nine are in the Chattogram region.

In the election, his rival panel, Forum, led by Faisal Samad, failed to win even one director seat.

To select the new executive committee for the 2024–2026 term, elections were held on Saturday (9 March) at the BGMEA headquarters in Chattogram and Dhaka.

In the Dhaka Centre, some 1839 votes were cast out of a total of 2032 while some 387 of the 464 votes were cast at the Chattogram polling station.

Polling took place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the BGMEA's Dhaka and Chattogram offices, said Jahangir Alamin, the chairman of the election board for the 2024–2026 term.

Kochi is chairman of Seha Design (BD) Ltd. and general secretary of the Awami League of Dhaka North City Corporation.

Right now, he serves as the BGMEA's senior vice president.

At first, the general voters elect 35 directors of BGMEA and later, the elected directors nominate the president and vice presidents.

Forum and Sammilito Parishad were the two panels that participated in the election.
