Consignments of sugar and onions are set to arrive in the country from India before the month of Ramadan, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said on Monday (4 March).
"India has already issued export order letters in this regard," said the state minister as he responded to questions from journalists at the Deputy Commissioner's conference held at the capital’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
The state minister said monitoring of markets to control the prices of daily commodities has commenced, emphasising that soybean oil will now be available at Tk163 per litre.
Additionally, he urged the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to take necessary measures to control the prices of goods.
During the conference, there was a suggestion to update the 'Commodity Act', which the state minister acknowledged.
He further instructed the DCs to update the list of 1 crore families, which was compiled during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to provide them with essentials at subsidized prices, within the next two months.
Looking forward, the state minister disclosed plans for TCB products to be sold from permanent stores starting from the next financial year.
Moreover, he announced that one product would be selected from each district, with assistance provided in marketing that product both nationally and internationally.
Additionally, the manufacturer of the product would be recognised, the state minister added.
