Nokia phone manufacturing resumes in Bangladesh

Nokia, the globally renowned brand in mobile technology, has marked its return to Bangladesh as manufacturing operations kick-start once again in the country.

Salextra, in collaboration with Nokia, has initiated production at its newly established manufacturing unit located in Tongi, Gazipur, encompassing an expansive area of 53,715 square feet, reads a press release.

With a workforce of 400 employees, of which 40 percent are women, Salextra's facility is geared towards not only Nokia phones but also the production and distribution of various lifestyle gadgets including Smartwatches, TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds, headphones, feature phones, smartphones, and more.

Alain Lejeune, expressing his satisfaction, highlighted the modern technological infrastructure of Salextra's manufacturing unit. He announced that production has commenced for seven models of Nokia phones, with plans for the introduction of more products and services in collaboration with HMD in the near future.

Ravi Kunwar lauded Salextra's utilization of state-of-the-art machinery and technology in Bangladesh, emphasizing that world-class Nokia phones will now be manufactured in the country.

High-ups of regulatory bodies including BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission), NBR (National Board of Revenue), and UCB Bank, visited and commended Salextra's manufacturing standards.

Ashraf Bin Taj, Chairman of the Board of Salextra Limited, affirmed the commitment to ensuring the quality of each Nokia phone unit produced, expressing the company's aspiration to play a significant role in Bangladesh's burgeoning mobile industry.

Salextra's Co-Founders, Shakib Arafat and Riajul Islam, initiated the company in 2020. Their dedication has led to the successful establishment of the manufacturing unit, currently employing over 500 individuals with a trajectory of continuous growth.

The resumption of Nokia phone manufacturing in Bangladesh through Salextra's operations marks a significant milestone, promising quality products and contributing to the country's technological advancement and economic growth.
