Internet users nationwide may encounter partial disruptions From 7am to 7pm on 2 March as maintenance work is carried out on the Singapore segment of the SEA-ME-WE-4 submarine communications cable, which links Cox's Bazar to Singapore.
Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) has confirmed the partial closure of circuits during this period.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers during this maintenance period, which may result in temporary slowdowns or interruptions in internet service," stated BSCPLC.
However, the SEA-ME-WE-5 submarine cable in Kuakata will remain operational without interruption.
Bangladesh's connection to the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 4 (SEA-ME-WE 4) consortium in 2006 marked its first undersea cable connection, providing approximately 800 Gbps bandwidth.
Since the establishment of the SEA-ME-WE 5 connection in 2017, the Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) has supplied 1,500 Gbps.
The company aims to receive 13,200 Gbps from the third undersea cable, SEA-ME-WE 6, by 2025.
Additionally, the BSCCL plans to invest $3.2 million to increase the capacity of its initial undersea cable to 4,600 Gbps, nearly six times its current capacity.
Furthermore, a consortium comprising Summit Communications, CdNet Communications, and Metacore Subcom Ltd is on track to install the country's first private submarine cable by 2025, with a bandwidth capacity of 45,000 Gbps.
