Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced that around 40 percent of voters cast votes in the 12th national election.
"This is the current reliable estimate of the turnout so far," the CEC stated during a briefing for journalists at the EC building in Dhaka around 5:30 pm.
The polls officially closed at 4:00 pm starting from 8am in 300 constituencies across Bangladesh. However, the voter turnout stood at 27.15% until 3:00 pm, as reported by EC Secretary Jahangir Alam during a media briefing at the EC secretariat in the first seven hours of voting.
