Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said today the final trial of the barbaric carnage in Pilkhana will soon come to a close.
"Whatever happens, we are trying to expedite the trial process. We will accept whatever decisions the court reaches as it operates independently. There has been no negligence on anyone’s part; however, it is taking time to thoroughly complete the investigation," said the minister.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the graves of the slain army officers at the Military Graveyard in the capital's Banani on Sunday, February 25th.
On 25 and 26 February in 2009, 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the name of rebellion in Pilkhana, the then BDR, now BGB headquarters.
One murder and one explosive case were filed in connection with the incident. In the murder case, 152 people were sentenced to death, 160 were sentenced to life imprisonment, and 256 were sentenced to various terms. Among them, 139 death sentences and 146 life sentences were upheld by the High Court.
