The Department of Environment has adviced city dwellers to wear masks when they are at risk due to air pollution exceeding 300 on the air quality index.
In a press release signed by Senior Information Officer Dipankar Bar at the environment ministry, people with ailments, children, and the elderly have been advised not to venture outside unnecessarily during such air conditions.
The department is disseminating health protection advice on its official website under the guidance of Environment Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury.
Regular updates on air pollution levels are being provided on the website, considering the severity of the pollution, the release added.
The department further said that additional advice would be provided based on the level of pollution.
The department clarified that the alert would be lifted if the air pollution level falls below 300 on the air quality index.
Additionally, the department is sharing alert monitoring data from 16 Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Systems (CAMS) located in other cities across the country, including Dhaka.
