A new committee has been formed to investigate the death of five-year-old Ayaan, who passed away after undergoing anesthesia before circumcision at United Medical College in the capital city's Badda area.
The High Court bench of Justice Jaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah on Tuesday issued an order to form the committee, with instructions to submit a report within 30 days.
On 9 January, Supreme Court lawyer ABM Shahjahan Akand filed a writ petition, attached with several media reports on Ayaan’s death at United Hospital, seeking direction from the High Court regarding the matter.
According to the writ, Ayaan was taken to United Medical College Hospital in Badda for circumcision on 31 December.
The petition alleges that physicians administered full anesthesia to Ayaan around 9am. He was subsequently transferred to United Hospital in Gulshan when he did not regain consciousness.
Ayaan was placed on life support at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the hospital and was pronounced dead on 7 January, according to the writ document.
