UAE minister lauds PM Sheikh Hasina's global leadership on climate change

Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak has highly appreciated Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's global leadership on climate change. She made the appreciation during the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister of Bangladesh Saber Hossain Chowdhury hold a bilateral meeting her in Dubai.

The meeting, held on Monday afternoon, emphasized on cooperation between the two countries to address the challenges of climate change, environment and sustainable development, said a press release sent from the Ministry of Environment in Dhaka on Monday night.

During the meeting, Environment Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Minister Al Dahak exchanged valuable views and strategies aimed at combating climate change, conserving forests and protecting the environment for future generations. Both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to implement sustainable practices and policies to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change and prioritize environmental protection.

Environment Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury underscored Bangladesh's support to achieve the environmental goals enshrined in different international agreements, including the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

He highlighted the importance of international partnerships and collaborations to achieve overall environmental objectives.He said international and bilateral cooperation and concerted efforts are needed to implement the UAE consensus emerging from COP28, Bangladesh's National Adaptation Plan and Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan.

Minister Al Dahhak reiterated the UAE's commitment to cooperate with Bangladesh and global partners to address the challenges of climate change. She highlighted the UAE's initiatives and investments in renewable energy, conservation efforts and climate resilient strategies.

The meeting concluded with mutual agreement to enhance cooperation through knowledge exchange, technical assistance and joint ventures. Both ministers acknowledged the shared responsibility of both countries to protect the environment and pledged to work closely to advance environmental strategies and activities in the region and globally.

Earlier, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury held a fruitful bilateral meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

During the meeting, both the ministers agreed to strengthen the partnership between the two brotherly countries by giving renewed emphasis on trade and investment. The year 2024 marks an auspicious year for Bangladesh-UAE bilateral relations as it marks 50 years of diplomatic relations.
