BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Amir Khasur were released from jail today after three and a half months.
The release came a day after the top BNP leaders secured bail in a case filed over the vandalism of the chief justice's residence, paving the way for their release.
Hundreds of party leaders and activists greeted them at the jail gate.
After being arrested on 29 October last year, Fakhrul was denied bail four times by the High Court and lower courts. Khasru had also been denied bail in the same case.
BNP activists and police clashed during the party's grand rally in the capital. Over the incident,
Fakhrul was sued in 11 cases, while Khasru was accused in 10 cases following the violence centring BNP’s grand rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area on 28 October.
Fakhrul had already been awarded bail in 10 cases and Khasru in nine cases.
Earlier the day, BNP Publicity Secretary and Media Cell Member Shahid Uddin Annie was freed from Kashimpur Central Jail.
BNP Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the news to the media.
Annie was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on 10 October night.
