PM sits with 1,549 aspirants ahead of election to reserved seats

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today held a meeting with 1,549 aspirants vying for Awami League tickets for the reserved women's seats in the 12th national parliament.

Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League (AL) president, sat with the aspirants at Ganabhaban around 10:00am.

The nomination seekers, along with their supporters and relatives, began arriving at the Prime Minister's official residence since 8:00am with the aspirants allowed access to GanaBhaban by presenting their nomination form slips.

Following this gathering, another meeting of the AL Parliamentary Nomination Board which will be chaired by the Prime Minister, was scheduled for noon to finalise candidates for the reserved women's seats.

The Awami League sold a total of 1,549 forms, with an average of 32 nomination seekers for each seat, amounting to Tk7.74 crores.

There are 50 reserved seats for women in the parliament. Each political party is entitled to one reserved seat for every six seats. Consequently, the Awami League is poised to secure a total of 48 seats owing to their party representation and that of independents in the parliament.
