The Highway Police have introduced body-worn cameras for its personnel in a bid to enhance service quality and ensure transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

The inauguration of the body-worn cameras took place during the Highway Police Service Week 2024, commencing at the Rajarbag police line in Dhaka on Tuesday.

A total of 300 body-worn cameras are being distributed starting today, to be worn by team leaders and patrol unit leaders, media reported citing police sources.

Simultaneously, they have unveiled the "Hello HP" app designed to provide swift assistance in the event of unforeseen accidents on the highway. Individuals encountering emergencies on the highway can activate a notification to alert the nearby Highway Police unit within a 20- to 25-kilometre radius.

The Highway Police currently oversees just 2,291 km of the country's 22,000 km highway network.

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun inaugurated the event while Home Minister Asaduzzam Khan Kamal graced the occasion as the chief guest.
