The size of the current Cabinet may expand after the election in the reserved seats for women, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said today (12 February).

Quader, who also serves as the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, made these remarks while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formed the new cabinet for the fourth consecutive time on 11 January following the 7 January election. Apart from the Prime Minister, the new Cabinet comprises 25 ministers and 11 state ministers.

When asked about a potential expansion, Obaidul Quader said, “The Prime Minister can say whether the size of the current Cabinet will expand or not. But some ministries like labour and employment, and culture will have a minister at some point.”

The Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Culture currently do not have ministers or state ministers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself oversees these ministries.

Quader said we may get female ministers after the election to the reserved seats.

“It will be thought about after the election and I will do it under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister,” the Awami league general secretary added.
