State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid is optimistic about the improvement of the gas supply situation within the next one or two days.

“The supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is facilitated through two terminals. One of those terminals is currently undergoing maintenance; however, upon its return to operation, it did not function properly. Consequently, this has led to a gas supply issue in Chattogram, followed by an impact in Dhaka,” said the state minister in while talking with reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday.

Nasrul Hamid further said, “The gas crisis is a temporary problem due to an unexpected reason. The gas supply conditions are expected to be rectified within the next one or two days.”

The State Minister for Power has urged the public to exhibit patience during this temporary crisis.

“As an alternative to LNG, Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) is gaining popularity for household use. Currently, approximately 75% of households are utilizing LPG for cooking. Natural gas is exclusive to residents of Dhaka and its adjacent areas, Chattogram, and Sylhet. LPG is gradually expanding its usage in various sectors, including public transportation where buses are now adopting LPG as a fuel source. The pricing of LPG is regularly adjusted based on international rates every month,” the state minister for power added.

Nasrul Hamid said that the government is actively working to ensure a consistent gas supply to every customer.
