4 BCL activists killed as car plunges into ditch in Sylhet

Four activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were killed when a private car, carrying them, plunged into a roadside ditch on the Sylhet-Jaflong highway in the Banglabazar area under Jaintapur upazila of the district last night (Friday).

The deceased were identified as Tamal, 25, from Panihara Hati in Jaintapur Upazila, Nehal, 26, son of Randeep Pal from Nijpat Union in the same upazila, Zubair, son of Jamal Uddin from Kamlabari area, and Ali Hossain Sumon, son of Harun-Ur-Rashid from Nijpat Union.

The car plunged into the roadside ditch around 1 am last night when the driver lost control, causing serious injuries to the occupants. Later, locals rescued them from the car and rushed them to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead, as reported by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Thana, Golam Dastagir Ahmad, to the media.

Rahel Siraj, the General Secretary of Sylhet District Chhatra League, claimed that all the victims were leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
