Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has reported that 241 out of 299 constituencies lacked competitiveness in the 12th national election.

The anti-corruption watchdog made the claim in a report titled '12th National Parliamentary Election Process Tracking,' presented at the Midas Center in Dhanmondi on Wednesday (17th January).

According to TIB, the ruling Awami League strategically introduced dummy candidates from its own party to project an illusion of competitiveness and participation, a strategy that did not materialize in the majority of constituencies.

In the polling centers across the country, the presence of polling agents from the Awami League and its independent candidates was predominant, while agents from opposition parties were reportedly forced to abstain from entering, TIB stated.

TIB highlighted that candidates from the Awami League and its independents, who faced defeat in the election, lodged complaints about various irregularities. These complaints encompassed issues such as the premature sealing of ballots before voting and the public sealing of ballots during the voting process.
