The government is working to bring the prices of commodities under control, Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said.

“Government is working to control the price of commodities, there is no lack of sincerity and effort,” he said at a press briefing at the party's central office on Friday (15 March).

“The market situation in the whole world including Bangladesh is not good anywhere in the world. There is no reason to think that everything in the world is as cheap as ever. Market conditions across the globe have been negatively affected. Its impact will also affect Bangladesh,” he added.

He said the whole world is now a global village and the effects of rising prices in the global market will be felt in Bangladesh also.

Stating that any syndicate responsible for price hikes will be broken, the minister said, “It remains to be seen who is involved with it. We need to investigate whether it is due to opposition to the government or not.”

“Administratively, everyone is working under the instructions of the prime minister so that it can be brought under control,” he added.

Regarding the various critical statements made by the ministers, he said, “All our officials should refrain from making statements that are embarrassing for the government.”

Obaidul Quader said that the people are not with BNP.

“People of this country have accepted the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. People of Bangladesh are with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.

He said efforts are being made to stop extortion in the transport sector.

AL Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Publicity Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan and others were also present during the press briefing.
