Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is scheduled to make her inaugural visit to Bangladesh in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Accompanied by Johan Forssell, the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, and UNDP Assistant Secretary-General Ulrika Modéer, the Princess's visit will span from 18 to 21 March.
According to a statement from the Swedish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, the visit will provide Princess Victoria with an opportunity to witness Bangladesh's development journey and assess the challenges in achieving the SDGs.
Forssell remarked, "Sweden and Bangladesh have shared a partnership for over 50 years, characterized by long-term development cooperation and extensive trade. Bangladesh's remarkable development progress in recent years positions it to transition from a low-income to a middle-income country by 2026."
He added, "The business sector, including Swedish companies, plays a crucial role in fostering the green and digital transition, which contributes significantly to sustainable growth and job creation."
This visit, marking Princess Victoria's debut as a goodwill ambassador, will encompass engagements with government officials, business leaders, organizations, and development partners. Discussions will revolve around the business sector's involvement in advancing the green and digital transition.
The delegation will also embark on field visits focusing on climate adaptation, digitalization, and local innovations. Additionally, the itinerary includes a visit to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.
