544 killed in 583 road accidents in February: Road Safety Foundation

A total of 544 people have been killed in 583 road accidents in the country during the month of February, said a recent report by the Road Safety Foundation.

The accidents also left 867 people injured, the Road Safety Foundation said in a press release on Wednesday (13 March).

The Road Safety Foundation prepared the report based on data from 9 national dailies, 7 online news portals and electronic media.

Among the 544 killed, 79 were women and 82 were children.

At this time, 6 people were killed and 2 people were injured in 4 boat accidents.

28 people were killed and 66 injured in 34 railway accidents.

According to the Road Safety Foundation, 206 people were killed in 187 motorcycle accidents in February, which is 37.86% of the total fatalities.

The report states a total of 173 (29.67%) of the accidents occurred on national highways, 234 (40.13%) on regional roads, 93 (15.95%) on rural roads, 72 (12.34%) on city roads and 11 (1.88%) occurred in other locations.

The number of vehicles involved in the accident is 866.

Chattogram division had the highest number of accidents at 126 and Dhaka division had the highest number of fatalities at 120.
