A Bangladeshi ship named "MV Abdullah", owned by KSRM Group, has been captured by Somalian pirates in the Indian Ocean.

“The ship was captured by pirates in the Indian Ocean on its way to the United Arab Emirates with coal from Mozambique on Tuesday (12 March),” KSRM Group Chief Executive Officer Mehrul Karim told media.

He said the 23 sailors on board the ship were safe.

Mehrul Karim said that the group is trying to communicate with the sailors of the ship after learning about the incident.

The 190-metre-long ship was built in 2016.

KSRM Group procured the ship last year and changed its name from "Golden Hawk" to "MV Abdullah".

The vessel was carrying general cargo after joining the fleet of KSRM Group.
