Manusher Jonno Foundation advocates investments in women's empowerment

Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) Shaheen Anam underscored the importance of holistic investments in various aspects to uplift women.
 
She made the observation at an event titled ‘Invest in Her: Protecting Future,’ that took place at the ALOK Auditorium of MJF Tower on 11 March (Monday).

Shaheen Anam said while economic empowerment serves as a cornerstone for women's advancement, investments should extend beyond financial realms.
 
She advocated for increased investments to enhance the quality of life, health, education, and skills of women, emphasizing the significance of addressing women's socio-psychological well-being.

Expressing solidarity with Palestinian women, Anam highlighted the multifaceted challenges women face globally and stressed the need for collective efforts to address them.

Shima Moslem, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, emphasized the critical role of investment in preventing violence against women. She delineated a three-phase approach encompassing remediation, prevention, and structural change to combat gender-based violence effectively.

Dr. Sharmind Neelormi, a Professor in the Department of Economics at Jahangirnagar University, shed light on the dearth of daycare centers, hindering women's participation in the workforce. She urged for investments in establishing daycare facilities across urban and rural areas to facilitate women's empowerment.

Dr. Sakia Haque, Founder of Travelettes of Bangladesh, urged proactive initiatives for women's development, stressing the importance of individual and collective efforts.

The event featured cultural performances and saw participation from female staff of MJF and young women from various development organizations. Wasiur Rahman Tonmoy, Co-ordinator of MJF, skillfully moderated the program.

The dialogue session served as a platform to advocate for comprehensive investments in women's empowerment and underscored the collective commitment towards fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
