The dengue death toll in Bangladesh rose to 548 this year as three more fatalities were reported in the 24 hours ending Saturday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The recent deaths were recorded in different parts of the country, with one each occurring in Dhaka South City Corporation, Barishal division, and Khulna division (outside the city corporations).
During the same period, 316 new patients were hospitalised with dengue-related complications. Of these, 95 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 63 were admitted in Dhaka South City Corporation.
Currently, 1,777 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.
Since the beginning of the year, 98,504 dengue cases have been reported nationwide.
In 2023, dengue claimed 1,705 lives, marking it as the deadliest year on record. That year, Bangladesh saw 321,179 dengue cases, with 318,749 recoveries, according to DGHS data.
Health experts have urged citizens to remain vigilant against the disease by keeping their surroundings clean, using mosquito repellents, and promptly seeking medical attention for any symptoms of dengue fever.
