Law enforcement agencies have arrested 45 individuals across the country in connection with irregularities and clashes occurring during today's elections, spanning various municipalities, Zilla Parishads, and union parishads, as well as the Cumilla and Mymensingh City Corporations.
The information was disclosed by the law and order monitoring cell formed by the Election Commission on Saturday (9 March).
Additionally, Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath informed the media that 42% of ballots were cast in Mymensingh and 33% in Cumilla by 2pm.
According to the Election Commission, voting is underway in 990 booths across 128 centers in Mymensingh city. All public and private offices in the city are closed for the polling, and vehicular movement has been restricted.
In the Mymensingh city election for mayor, the candidates include former mayor and president of the metropolitan Awami League M. Ekramul Haque Titu (clock), district Awami League president Ehtesamul Alam (horse), former general secretary of city Awami League Advocate Sadekul Haque Khan Milky Toju (elephant), former member of Central Farmers League and agriculturist Dr. Rezaul Haque (Deer), and District Jatiya Party Joint General Secretary Shahidul Islam Swapan Mondal (Plough).
The total number of voters in Mymensingh City is 336,496, comprising 163,872 men, 172,615 women, and 9 transgender individuals. A councilor was elected unopposed in Ward 11.
In Cumilla city, candidates for the mayor include former joint general secretary of Cumilla South District BNP and former mayor Md Monirul Haque Sakku (table clock), Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League organizing secretary Tahsin Bahar (bus), Cumilla Metropolitan Awami League advisor Noor Ur Rahman (elephant), and Cumilla Metropolitan Volunteers Party former president Mohammad Nizam Uddin (horse). Voting is taking place at 105 polling stations in the Cumilla City Corporation elections.
The total number of voters in Cumilla city is 242,458.
