The Bangladeshi high commission in Kuala Lumpur said that two of the three victims of Monday's train accident in Malaysia were Bangladeshi nationals.
The two are Md. Dulal and Md. Kamal Hossain. Both were from Cumilla's Debidwar upazila, according to the mission’s post on Facebook (7 March).
The third victim has been named as Muhammad Ali; his nationality has not yet been confirmed. On the other hand, the mission said that Ali's pocket included an identity card provided by UNHCR and cited Malaysian police.
They moved to Malaysia in 2022 as a workers of Delta Creation Sdn Bhd.
According to the Facebook post, the mission is working to send the bodies home.
Malaysian English-language daily The Star reported that three Bangladeshi men were slammed by a commuter train earlier on Monday, killing them close to the railway lines at Taman Puncak Utama Jade Hill in Kajang, Malaysia.
The incident occurred on Sunday at 10:53 pm when the victims allegedly trespassed onto the tracks, according to Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, assistant director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department,.
"The victims are aged between 30 and 40 and all died at the scene. Their bodies were not trapped on the tracks. The impact of the collision threw their bodies to the side of the tracks," he said in a statement on Monday.
