A Dhaka Court has ordered for the attachment of properties belonging to e-commerce platform Evaly's Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Rassel and its Chairman Shamima Nasrin in a cheque dishonour case.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba passed the order on Thursday (7 March), plaintiff's lawyer Sakibul Islam told Bangladesh First.
He said, on 15 February, arrest warrants were issued against the accused in the case. However, despite the arrest order, they failed to appear in court on the scheduled day, prompting the filing of a petition to seize their assets.
Following a hearing, the court instructed the relevant authorities to freeze their assets, said Sakib.
According to the case statement, Mujahid Hasan Fahim, a resident of Darus Salam police station in the capital, placed an order for a motorcycle worth Tk 5 lakh on 20 February 2021, and paid the full price. However, when the purchased motorcycle was not delivered within the stipulated period of (45) working days, Fahim contacted Evaly's Dhanmondi office and received a cheque for the refund.
Upon depositing the cheque in the bank, it was returned due to insufficient funds. Despite reporting the issue to Evaly, they failed to expedite the refund process.
Consequently, Fahim filed a case in court regarding the matter.
