Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has paid glowing tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking the historic March 7.
She paid the homage by placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city at 7:00 am today (7 March).
After laying the wreath, Sheikh Hasina stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of independence.
Later, flanked by party leaders, Sheikh Hasina, also the President of Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu as the chief of her party.
The nation is paying tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, with a fitting manner today (7 March) in keeping with the historic March 7 speech.
The historic speech on March 7, 1971, was widely praised as a tacit declaration of the country's independence.
An elaborate program has been developed by the ruling Awami League (AL) to suitably mark Thursday, March 7, the historic "red letter" day in the history of the country.
The national and party flags were hoisted atop Bangabandhu Bhaban and the party headquarters by the ruling AL in honor of the day at 6:30 am.
A discussion will be held at AL’s Dhaka District Office in the city’s Tejgaon at 4pm with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The great leader Sheikh Mujib, the architect of independent Bangladesh, gave a momentous address on March 7, 1971, at a large rally at the former Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan). He exhorted the freedom-loving Bangalees to conduct a decisive struggle against the Pakistani occupation troops at that time.
"Turn every house into a fortress, resist the enemy with everything you have ... Having mastered the lesson of sacrifice, we shall give more blood. God willing [Inshallah], we shall free the people of this land," Bangabandhu also said in his speech.
He declared, "Ebarer sangram amader muktir sangram, ebarer sangram swadhinatar sangram (the struggle this time is for our freedom, the struggle this time is for our independence)".
The historic March 7 speech was included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world's important documentary heritage maintained by UNESCO on 30 October in 2017.
