The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has suspended Raihan Sharif, a teacher at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College, Sirajganj, in connection with the incident of shooting a student of the institution.
Raihan Sharif has been suspended given his arrest in cases related to criminal offenses, said an office order signed by Deputy Secretary Dur-Ray Shahwaz on Wednesday (6 March).
Earlier, a three-member committee headed byDGHS Additional Director General (Admin) Baizid Khoorshid Riaz was formed to investigate the incident.
Raihan Sharif, who is a teacher in the community medicine department of Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College, came to limelight after shooting Arafat Amin, a third-year MBBS student of the eighth batch of the college, on 4 March.
Sirajganj Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mondal said Dr Raihan Sharif was initially arrested with weapons in connection with the attempted murder of the student.
"Two foreign pistols of seven point five six bore, 81 bullets, 4 magazines, and 12 foreign knives were recovered from his possession. However, he could not produce a valid license for the two foreign pistols," said the SP.
Two cases were filed against him - one by the victim student’s father, and the other under the Arms Control Act by Deputy Inspector Abdul Wadud of the Detective Branch (DB) of Sirajganj District Police.
