The S Alam Group of Industries said there will be no shortage of sugar in the market despite the fire at its Chattogram warehouse, as the conglomerate has ample refined sugar in stock.
"It will take one to two days to resume production. Our primary focus is extinguishing the fire. There will be no shortage of sugar," said the group’s Managing Director Mohammed Saiful Alam, while addressing reporters during a visit to the fire-affected warehouse in Ichanagar village under Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram today (5 March).
He said, "There are some businessmen who want to capitalise on this kind of situation. However, we already have sufficient stocks of sugar to supply. The situation will return to normal in a few days."
A fire broke out at S Alam Group's warehouse containing 100,000 tonne of raw sugar on Monday (4 March).
Along with the fire service, the army, navy, air force, and coast guard also participated in controlling the fire.
