Teacher shoots student at a medical college in Sirajganj

A teacher has allegedly fired at a student while delivering lecture at classroom at Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College (MAMC) in Sirajganj at 3:30 pm on Monday (4 March).

The victim, Arafat Abir Tamal, a third-year student, is now undergoing treatment at MAMC as he sustained wounds in his right thigh, said Sirajganj Additional Superintendent of Police Md Hannan Mia.

Another student also injured as a bullet passed through his ears. However, his identity is yet to be determined.

The accused teacher has been identified as Dr. Raihan Sharif.

Sources said that some students had an altercation with the teacher and at one stage of argument physician Raihan opened fire at the students, leaving Tamal injured.

A tense situation is prevailing on the college campus as students started protests, demanding legal action for the accused teacher.
