A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against e-commerce company Evaly's managing director (MD) Russell and its chairman Shamima Nasreen in three separate check dishonor cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Farah Diba Chanda passed the order on Monday morning.
Sabiqul Islam, lawyer of the plaintiff, told the media that the court issued the arrest warrants as they didn’t appear before it.
Earlier, on 15 January, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider's court issued an arrest warrant against the couple after they disregarded a summons requiring them to appear in court. Later, on 17 January, Russel surrendered to the court and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court granted bail to him.
In the same case, Evaly Chairman Shamima Nasreen also disregarded a court summons.
On 4 February, Evaly MD Russell took part in a programme at the office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection at Karwan Bazar in the capital to refund money to customers. At the event, he said every customer’s debt to Evaly would be paid.
"In this case, all those who have complained or those who have not complained will be paid according to the list," he added.
