A Bangladeshi couple was shot dead by assailants in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday evening.
The victims were Mohin Bhuiyan, 32, from Manikpur village of Arjuntala union in Noakhali, and his wife, Runa Akter, 22, who was pregnant at the time.
Arjuntala Union Parishad Member Abdur Jabbar confirmed the news of their deaths, quoting the victim’s younger brother Mafiz Bhuiyan, who also resides in South Africa.
Mohin Bhuiyan and his wife died on the spot when a group of assailants opened fire on them, said Abdur Jabbar.
However, he mentioned that two of their children who were with them during the incident were unharmed.
Mohin’s younger brother, Mafij Bhuiyan, said his brother moved to South Africa in 2008 in search of better opportunities. He added that he later brought his wife with him six years ago.
