Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, remarked Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
"This nation is one of communal harmony. For a long time, people of various faiths have been practising their respective religions in a peaceful and amicable manner," he said while visiting the Siddheshwari Kali Temple's Puja Mandap during a ceremonial distribution of clothing on Friday (11 October).
Addressing concerns of potential disruptions, the adviser acknowledged, "It is true that there are some miscreants among us who, from time to time, create certain problems. There was indeed some concern about whether this Puja would be celebrated peacefully. However, the current government believes in an inclusive society."
Highlighting the personal nature of religious practice, Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar further said, "Religion is a personal matter for everyone. The state does not interfere in anyone’s religious practices. The state is for all, and in the eyes of the state, all citizens are equal."
He reassured the public by noting, "The state has taken responsibility for overseeing the Puja. Everyone must uphold the spirit of harmony. If we can maintain our unity and solidarity, these miscreants will never achieve their objectives."
