In light of the rising tensions surrounding the Durga Puja festivities, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has instituted special measures to prevent any unwanted incidents.

"RAB personnel will function as a striking force during this period, complemented by the bomb disposal unit and intelligence branches," said RAB Legal Law and Media Wing Director  Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous during a press conference held at the elite force's media centre in Karwan Bazar on Wednesday (2 October).

"Furthermore, to combat any potential rumours related to the festivities, RAB's cyber patrolling efforts will be actively deployed," he added.

He stated that operations aimed at seizing illegal weapons are ongoing. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to identify those responsible for shootings and assaults during student movements.

"RAB personnel have not fired upon students and the public. While many from other forces fled, none from RAB did. Tear gas was only deployed from helicopters," Lieutenant Colonel Ferdous clarified, said.

He further noted that 1,170 individuals have been arrested by RAB, with daily improvements being reported.

However, he acknowledged a shortage of personnel at the elite force's camps. Operations are continuing in accordance with RAB's primary mandate, particularly in areas experiencing unrest, such as Ashulia and Baipail.

Regarding the withdrawal of RAB from the Sagar-Runi murder case, he mentioned that a task force has been established by the Ministry of Home Affairs at the direction of the High Court. This measure aims to expedite the investigation.

Additionally, in response to the repeated postponements of the investigation report, he confirmed that more experienced personnel had been recruited to assist with the inquiry.

Commenting on the flight of several former ministers, MPs, and leaders from the neighbouring country, he asserted, "There has been no negligence on RAB's part.

RAB became aware of this situation through a media report."
