The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected MPs of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad will be held on Thursday (January 11). The Election Commission (EC) has said that the gazette of the elected MPs may be published on Tuesday (January 9).
According to EC sources, the list or results of the newly elected candidates in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad will be published in the official gazette by Tuesday. According to the law, the new MPs must take oath within three days after the gazette is published.
Clause (3) of Article 148 (A) and Article 123 of the Bangladesh Constitution says, "The Chief Election Commissioner shall, within three days following the date on which the result of the general election of members of Parliament is notified in the official Gazette if the person specified for this purpose or any other person designated by such person under this Constitution for any reason fails or does not for any reason to administer the oath of office to the elected members."
The first session has to be convened within 30 days. However, there is no obligation on how many days after the election the gazette should be published.
