Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the four-day conference of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in the city today (3 March).
The conference began at Shapla Hall of Prime Minister's Office (PMO) at 10:30am.
Soon after the inaugural session, the DCs will participate in an open-discussion with the premier at Karabi Hall at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
On Saturday, Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain told a press conference at the Secretariat that the conference's subsequent working sessions will begin tomorrow (4 March) at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
The conference will have a total of thirty sessions, including twenty-five working sessions, wherein 356 proposals submitted by the DCs will be tabled.
This year, the Road Transport and Highways Division has the most 22 proposals to be discussed.
The proposals have prioritized issues including enhancing public services, reducing hassles to the public, constructing roads, highways, and bridges, expanding tourism, amending laws and regulations, and defending the interests of the general public.
High priorities include land management, bolstering local government institutions, disaster relief and management initiatives, local job creation and poverty alleviation programs, social safety net programs, e-governance and ICT utilization, expanding and raising the bar for education, family welfare and health, pollution prevention and conservation, physical infrastructure development, and inspection and coordination of development program implementation.
On the first day of the conference, seven sessions, including inaugural session and open discussion, will be held.
On the second day on March 4, the DCs will call on Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at JS Bhaban. A total of nine sessions will be taken place on that day.
On third day on March 5, seven sessions are set to be held.
On March 6, the DCs will call on Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan at Supreme Court Bhaban where a total of seven sessions will be held.
The cabinet secretary said during the 2023 annual conference that of the 212 decisions that were made, 130 have been finished and disposed of, and the other 82 are still being executed.
This percentage accounts for 62% of implementations or disposals, he added.
