Former Member of Parliament Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed has been placed on a five-day remand in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim, who was killed during the BNP's grand rally on 28 October 2023.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ragib Nur granted the remand on Monday after a hearing, following a request by Sub-Inspector Tanmoy Kumar Biswas of Paltan Model Police Station, who is leading the investigation.

The police had initially sought a 10-day remand, which was supported by the state prosecution. However, the court approved a five-day remand, as no legal representative appeared on behalf of Sultan Mansur during the hearing.

Earlier in the day, Sultan Mansur was arrested by the police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka upon his return from Canada.
