Dr Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of "Amar Desh" newspaper, who was imprisoned and subjected to severe persecution under the fascist rule of Sheikh Hasina, has returned to Bangladesh.

He arrived in the country on a flight from Turkey at around 9:30am on Friday (27 September).

During the reign of Sheikh Hasina, Mahmudur Rahman faced a total of 124 lawsuits across the country.

In June 2010, his newspaper, "Amar Desh", was first shut down, and he was arrested shortly after.

On 11th April 2013, for the second time, the newspaper was closed, and more cases were filed against him.

While in remand, he endured inhumane torture.

Subsequently, in one of the cases, Mahmudur Rahman and his wife were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by the court.

Following this, the then-government forced him to leave the country.
