The pineapples produced in the Madhupur Garh region of Tangail have officially been granted Geographical Indication (GI) status.
The Geographical Indication Unit issued the certificate on 24 September, signed by Mumin Hasan, Director General of the Department of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (DPDT) under the Ministry of Industries.
Madhupur is a major pineapple cultivation area in Bangladesh, producing pineapples worth several hundred crores of taka each year.
