Member of law enforcing agencies in special joint-drives recovered 216 firearms and arrested 92 persons till today from September 4, a press release of the Police Headquarters said this in the afternoon.
Recovered firearms include 11 revolvers, 62 pistols, 13 rifles, 28 shotguns, 6 pipe guns, 20 LG, 31 guns, one AK47 rifle, two gas-guns, one Chinese rifle, four air guns, five SMG and two teargas launchers, the release added.
The joint force comprising the members from Armed Forces, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Ansar conducted the drives to recover illegal firearms and ammunition alongside bringing the drug peddlers to book.
Police Headquarters public relations officer AKM Kamrul Ahsan told BSS that they are yet to identify which of the recovered arms were looted from police during the political unrest in July and August.
