6 suspects have been arrested by the Bangladesh Army in connection with the fatal stabbing of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan in Cox’s Bazar, with one suspect admitting to delivering the fatal blow

Bangladesh Army has apprehended six individuals in connection with the murder of Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan, 23, who was fatally stabbed by robbers in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria area.

This information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Wednesday (25 September).

The detainees are identified as Md. Babul Prakash, 44, Md Helal Uddin, 34, Md Anwar Hakim, 28, Md Arif Ullah, 25, Md Ziab-ul Karim, 45, and Md Hossain, 39.

Preliminary confessions reveal that Babul Prakash admitted to inflicting the fatal stab wound on Lieutenant Tanzim.

According to the press release, two locally made firearms, 11 rounds of various ammunition, the knife used in the murder, a pickup truck, and a motorcycle were seized from the suspects.

The ISPR stated that Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar Nirjan was martyred in Cox’s Bazar's Chakaria on 24 September at 3:00am during an anti-robbery operation based on intelligence.

A sweep operation in the area led to the detention of six individuals linked to the crime, including Babul Prakash, identified as the main financier of the incident.

During preliminary questioning, the suspects confessed that four of them were directly involved in the crime, while the remaining two provided information that aided the operation.

Among the detainees, Md Helal Uddin served as the second-in-command of the robbery gang, Md Anwar Hakim was the driver, Md Arif Ullah was an armed member, and information providers Md Ziab-ul Karim and Md Hossain admitted to their direct involvement in the incident.

The ISPR added that operations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the robbery gang.
