The Nepal Immigration Department on Tuesday rescued six Bangladeshi nationals who were trafficked to the country and had been detained in Kathmandu.

The rescued individuals, now in the custody of the Nepal Immigration Centre, were identified as Tuhinur Islam Anik, Shakib Ahmed, Md Rahim Akhand from Habiganj, and Rayan, Dulal Monshu, and Samrat from Gopalganj, according to Shariful Hasan, Associate Director of BRAC's Migration Program and Youth Platform.

Shariful Hasan stated that the victims' families contacted BRAC's Immigration Welfare Centre on Saturday, reporting that they had paid Tk 7 lakh per person to go to Albania via Nepal. However, the Albanian visas turned out to be fake. The traffickers had kept the victims confined in a hotel in Kathmandu for five months.

BRAC's Immigration Centre coordinated with USAID Nepal and the Nepal Immigration Department, leading to the rescue operation. The trafficked individuals were freed from the hotel, and a trafficker named Disan was detained in connection with the incident.

Documents reveal that Bangladeshi travel agencies Admire Air Travels and Khan International Tours & Travels were responsible for sending the victims to Nepal under false pretenses.
