A meeting between Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar took place in New York, focusing on issues of mutual interest, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session on Monday (23 September).
According to the post on X, Bangladesh's Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain met with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar during a break at the UN General Assembly meeting.
The two discussed matters of mutual concern.
This meeting marks the first high-level engagement between the two nations since the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August, following which Bangladesh-India relations have faced considerable strain.
Diplomatic tensions have persisted since the interim government assumed power on 8 August.
Notably, on Saturday, 21 September, the foreign adviser had informed reporters at the secretariat that discussions would be held to ease tensions between Bangladesh and India.
At that time, the Foreign Advisor had acknowledged that tensions with India existed and that dialogue would be initiated to address the issues. He confirmed plans to meet with Indian Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar to resolve the matter.
