Professor Ali Riaz has been appointed as the head of the Constitutional Reform Commission.
Ali Riaz, a distinguished professor of political science at Illinois State University in the US, will now lead the commission tasked with reviewing the nation’s constitution, according to a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday.
In his national address on 11 September, Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced the formation of six reform commissions and named their respective heads. At that time, Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik had been selected to lead the Constitutional Reform Commission.
However, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul informed the media that Shahdeen Malik later expressed his unwillingness to accept the position due to professional commitments. Following Malik's decision, Professor Ali Riaz was appointed to the role.
